Found some fresh tomatillos at the farmers market this weekend and wanted to make something new and different than your regular fried or stuffed tomatillos. So, got some ideas from my Mom and thus made this uniquely yummylicious gravy!! Do give it a try.
Ingredients
Tomoatillos-8 ( make four slits on each tomotillo and set aside)
Onion-1 medium ( diced)
Tomato-1 small (diced)
Salt to taste
Turmeric-1/4 tsp
Coriander Powder-1/2 tsp
Red Chili Powder-1 tsp
Tamrind Paste-1/4 tsp
Oil-2 tsp
Make Powder
Black Sesame seeds-1 tbsp
Roasted Channa-1 tbsp
Peanuts-2 tbsp
Red Chilis-4
Cumin-1/4 tsp
Salt- 1/4 tsp
Dry roast all the ingredients till golden brown and make a fine powder.
Method
Fill each slit tomatillo with required amount of the freshly ground powder and set aside.
Heat oil in a pan, add the diced onions and fry till translucent and then all the chopped tomatoes and fry till oil separates.
Add turmeric, salt,red chili powder and coriander powder and remaining freshly ground spice powder and fry for 2 mins. Now, arrange the tomatoll is in the pan, cover with lid and cook on low flame for 6-10 minutes( add half cup of water if required).Mix it very gently making sure the tomatillos don’t break.
Garnish with chopped green onions or cilantro and enjoy as a side with hot chapathis or Rotis.
